WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Have you got a Captain Willard "Seiko"? There's a very good homage with a Seiko movement. Tempted myself!

I've not heard of that one but I see that there are some very reasonably priced homages available.

For the price I think these cheap mechanical watches are a lot of fun and apart from an obvious DOA I've had no issues and if they arrived working they've stayed working for me. I just wanted something I'm not going to get mugged for or worry about it being damaged and it grew into a small collection of 12 homage watches. I think the biggest problem is choosing which original watch you like and if you can do that there's probably a homage of it out there. Just to be clear none of these are counterfeit and none of them carry the original expensive watch name or logo so they're all legal.

It's a shame Sekonda don't do mechanical watches any more. I have one I've had for over 40 years and it's still working fine, it's never been serviced ether but it is on its second strap, good going for 40 years :D

I've just received my latest "homage" watch. This one is an Omega Seamaster 007 edition homage and it seems to be very nice. It seems well made with no obvious faults or sharp edges although I've no idea what the automatic mechanical movement inside is as the page on ebay didn't say but I'm not bothered as it's a cheap gamble at under £40 so that's a £9,460 saving over an original but of course nowhere near the quality. It's just a cheap automatic mechanical watch which seems to work fine. It came with both a metal and a fabric NATO style strap too.

I think that's the last watch I want for now.

I looked at that, but I have 3 working watches and but only wear one most of the time. Just don't need more stuff that won't be used.

Only 3?!

I'm getting better at resisting temptation but still have the occasional relapse.

Ever curious about things.......

I have never heard of a 'homage' watch.......is that a more polite term for a copy, counterfeit, fake watch and if not such a version, can you please explain the backstory and legitimacy of 'an homage watch'.

I just rotate mine wearing a different one every day. I keep my original Swiss watches for very special occasions.

They're just "in the style of" but they're not fakes as they don't carry the Rolex / other famous name or badge and they are AFAIK and from Googling perfectly legal. They range from £20 or so up to over £1,000 depending on the quality. Mine range from £20 odd up to over £100 but less than £200 and I have to say that I don't see any real difference in the quality of the case and strap between them. Some use respected entry level mainstream movements like the Seiko NH3x and some use Chinese movements.

Some come well presented in a box and maybe with an extra strap and maybe a tool and some just come in bubble wrap and in a Jiffy bag. I suppose the more you pay the better the watch, strap and packaging.

This is a homage of the Omega Seamaster on ebay...

It's not the exact one I've just got, just the first one that came up. These are on ebay, Amazon, Ali Express and probably everywhere else.

This looks closer to the original as it has a dull brushed finish.

The problem can be that some of the homages look so convincing that only looking at it can really tell the difference and that means a mugger might have it off you before he/she realises that it's not what they were hoping it was.

I do them a deal... my watch for their phone and maybe it'll be an offer they can't refuse :D
