Hey Richard.I only had one experience I could not fathom at first.
Sent in a Tamron 2.8 of some type, can’t remember the exact model.
Got the report saying it had a large piece of debris only visible at f8 or higher. Though it odd as I had not noticed anything, ask for it to be sent back.
On getting it, there was a noticeable piece of debris which I had not seen before. It was under the front element and looked like an easy fix. Was going to get the tool for it and decided to give it a bit of a shake, low and behold it disappeared and no more shaking could get it back onto the front element.
Sold it on eBay and never heard anymore about it.
I Know it's surprising to receive a report about an issue you hadn’t noticed. Our technicians conduct thorough inspections to ensure the quality of the items we sell. Even if an issue might seem minor or intermittent, like the piece of debris you mentioned, we need to address it to maintain our standards and provide warranties to our customers. While repairs are possible with the team we offer them at a cost for the work required to make sure we know the issue is solved or we'll offer it for sale with the issue listed if someone else wants to try the repair.
When we accept trade-ins, our goal is to ensure that every item meets the grade it's assigned and is reliable. This often means we need to perform detailed checks and sometimes repairs, even for issues that may seem to resolve temporarily. I'm sure you'll understand if you've bought from a used range you're looking at the quality and reliability of the item you receive and wouldn't want to think we'd just shaken something and now we couldn't see it assume we'd solved an issue.
