Nikon D750 & D780

Thank you all, going to give it a go.

For some reason the photos I am taking are not as sharp as I think they should be. I have done the af fine tune on the lens and use focus and recompose, so must be a user error.

There also the shutter speed for the subject your taking. Is the subject still like if it windy or the person moving. There also steady hands while holding the camera etc

Shutter speed is fast enough, I was using studio lights. Shutter speed was 1/200, ISO 100, f8 and they eyes are not as sharp as they should.

What are you shooting?

Perhaps if you post some examples someone may have an answer

Ah that’s ok. Yeah when I had the d750 or d500 I wasn’t getting a good rate. But when I got my a7iii with Eye AF wow made things hell a lot easier mostly keepers

Are you using af-c or af- s.

Bbf I would of thought wouldn't be the issue here personally from my vage understanding of it all.

It doesn’t sound like BBF? Are you certain it’s not MA values? Is it front or back focussing?

BBF just makes sense out in the field for portraiture. Get focus and take a burst so that you can pick the shot without blinking or those slight expression changes. In the studio, I slow down and try get singular shots.

Thank you both for the suggestion, will have a play and upload some photos which may help.

Bbf won't really help with that issue then. As I think from my understanding is using bbf is more benifical really on afc when shooting moving stuff. I could be completely wrong again
The main purpose of BBF is to save you having to switch from AF-S to AF-C so if you're doing a shoot where you need both it can save time. Basically you set it to AF-C and if you want the AF-C you can just keep your thumb on the AEL/AFON button, and if you want AF-S you can focus with the AEL/AFON button and then release it for times you want to focus recompose etc.

Plus it's easy to go to manual focus (using an AF-S lens). One set up, three focusing methods. :)

Does anyone else use it all the time, annoys the hell out of me.

Anyway, Toby summed up a better definition of BBF.
I use it for AF-S shooting, but most of my shooting is AF-C.

I use U1 for everyday, grab and gun in an instant settings, and U2 set up for studio -simples.
Is there an idiot's guide on how to setup U1 and U2 settings?

So that U1 has bbf and U2 has normal button af.

Also what other settings have you got setup on each of your settings, please can you share if you don't mind.

Thank you

Isn't that the point

Yes and no, I just liked the ability to use both buttons, just in case I decided to mash the shutter for focus too  also handy when letting somebody else take a photo with your camera. Its a non issue as I never really got on with it anyway :D

Why do some Sony owners say such silly things.

It is a great camera. Just be aware that past circa 520mm only limited AF points work on Nikon’s 153 point AF system.

Thanks and yes I think you did mention that once before, glad things are already setup out of the box like BBF and focus spot selection on the little ok button.

Tell you what boys and girls, I am pretty well chuffed with this lens! It's been a long time since I've had extra length..

I was sceptical about all that glass to move and whether fast kids would be too much for it, but..
