Nikon Z* mirrorless

Looking for something budget due to the very occasional use that I may make of it. Budget was around £300 but could push to under £400.
You could also just go for a single prime once you've identified your most frequent focal length. The 20mm Viltrox, for example. A prime also gives the benefit of, usually, a wider aperture.
I have had the Tamron 17-35 (twice!) but I just find it too bulky and unwieldy with the FTZ. Although optically it was very good.

Thank you, preference is to get a zoom so do not have then keep changing back to the 24-70.

Thank you, will add that to the list to look at.

Currently have
Tamron 17-35 osd
Tamron 15-30 VC first version
Nikon 16-35 f4

I have owned all the lenses you have listed but on my DSLR's D750/810 & 850. The best wide angle lens I found for sharpness was the Tokina 16-28 from the the whole bunch. So maybe worth adding to your list?. Not sure if the Tokina will work with the FTZ but If you buy from Wex they have a good returns policy.

Thank you, another one to add to the list.

Worth checking, but I think from memory the Tokina 16-28 may be another one with a rounded front element and no filter thread (not sure if that's a showstopper for you or not)
Thank you, going to be used indoors mainly so dont need a filter.

I may asked this before - anyone tried Batis lens on Z body?

I thought Zeiss Batis was only a series on lens available on E mount?
Yes, but people adapt Sony lens to Nikon with adapter.
I'm looking to buy Batis 25 and wanted to see if any of our guys here tried to adapt batis lens on Nikon.

I also have the Nikon Z 12-28 lens for APS-C, and I think it's a cracking lens, and is crying out for a better range of APS-C bodies, and also a better (faster) standard zoom.

Nice pic BTW.

Yep. The Tammy 17-70 f2.8 in Sony mount with the ETZ Pro adapter might offer an alternative.

Thank you. The Zfc is fine for me, otherwise I agree with everything you said. I exposed this shot for the window, and it was a VERY dark church, so to pull that detail from the shadows is a tribute to the camera also. This was my first time out with the 12-28, and I was impressed. But yes, faster lenses would be a plus.

Anyone here bought that new 35mm 1.4 Z lens?

Have been using the 14-30mm f/4 S on the ZFC, it's become the goto lens for wider shooting but am finding myself (as expected) missing the true 14mm FOV. After some research, I've just ordered an AF-P DX Nikkor 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR. The 12-28 Z wasn't going to get me where I wanted to be, which was 14mm on the ZF full frame equivalent. The 10-20mm seems optically very sharp, gets me to 15mm at the wide end and at £189 for an "as new" example from MPB, seems like a no-brainer. It's also a VR lens.. Not planning to replace the 14-30, as that's a brilliant allrounder on the ZFC at 21-45mm but I do enjoy the wider views and the 10-20mm should do it, and cheaply. We'll see. Will report back!

Ken isn't generally my goto source but in this case he's posted plenty of decent images from this lens:

Slightly off-topic (but only slightly), for Zfc owners, will the Peak Design Sling 3 litre hold the Zfc and a couple of small lenses?

Alternatively, suggestions for similar from other makers - the key requirement is small size low weight, in the spirit of the camera.

I use a Vanguard VEO Range 21M Shoulder Bag to carry my Z50 with 16-50, 50-250 and 12-28 lenses.

I have a 3L sling. I usually use it for Z50 with 16-50 attached and 50-250. This fits very well.
I can fit the z50/16-50 with 2 smaller lenses by stacking the 2 smaller ones (the PD dividers let you do this).

Depending on how big these extra lenses are you might be better off with the 6L.

I’m only talking about small primes. Besides the 16-50 and 12-28, probably the Viltrox 20mm. Anything more and I will use one of my (many) larger bags. Just trying to go as minimalist as possible yet easy access.

I've just put the z50/16-50 on its side, then divider folded with the 12-28 on its side and the MC 50mm on its side. This all fits (no room for more).
The MC 50 is about the same size as the Viltrox (you'd better check this).

There is a front pocket for accessories.

It should be OK.

Whilst off topic :), which PD bag would I need for a Z8 and 24-120 with the hood on, plus a spare battery and a couple of filters. TIA

I'm going to be the PD bag Guru.
The z8 with 24-120 attached with hood protruding fits in the 6L sling.
This is on it's side - the bulk of the Z8 body means you have to pull the zip a bit hard to fully close.
I've cut out those annoying little internal pockets at each end that snag your camera as you take it in and out.

Depending on how much it was cropped, you probably just need a longer lens ? Getting one of the 45mp bodies (Z9, Z8 or Z7 II) will help (i.e. you will still get approx. 20mp in DX mode), Shooting something like the 180-600 in DX mode on one of the high MP bodies will net you an effective 900mm.

Sometimes there's just no substitute for length (ooh er missus) :ROFLMAO:

I
1/800. Aperture f8
I've edited the post to include this.
A wider aperture and higher shutter speed (1500?) would be worth a try next time.
Also, atmospheric distortion may be affecting the image which can be a problem at longer focal lengths.

Changing the subject once more (there’s a pattern appearing here), how are you finding the 50-250? BTW I have followed your lead and today ordered that Vanguard bag.
