Nikon Z* mirrorless

The sun popped up above the hill to give some nice back lighting.the 400 f4.5 behaved quite well considering shooting towards the light.

I have another of this fight but the road was running across the frame as they were right next to an access road to the pay booth. I saw a very thin patch of verge as the access road bends at this point. By getting low to the verge I was able to hide most of the road whilst getting a nice sun lit foreground.

Love these Rob, particularly the action shot - wonderful light and well captured

We're very happy to have a phone constantly connected and it's a marvel.
A camera that can send images directly to your cloud/desktop/phone, giving another level of backup is certainly a step forward in my opinion.
The reason I was mentioning the Z6III video is because I feel that the firmware that brings imaging cloud, could also be the one that brings other improvements.
I agree it is a nice to have item but when there is as assumption that the internet is obligatory and always available then people are deluded.
As an ex-IT consultant, people who suffer disasters are typically those who put all their eggs in one basket and assume invulnerability.
I am happy that my iphone, ipad(s), desktop(s) all synchronise and have my data but I also have alternative strategies for this to happen across my local LAN as well as the normal mode via the cloud.

I too have ditched both my Nikon DSLR cameras and all lenses and gone completely over to four thirds ( Panasonic) due to the weight . This is mainly due to my age I suppose

@Stephen L Following on from my recent questions on ZFC grip, I'm probably going to pull the trigger on a ZFC in the next week or so. I have the Z 12-28mm lens which I use as a lightweight option on my Z8.

I'm not sure which bundle to go with, ZFC with 16-50 & 50-250mm lens or ZFC and 28mm lens. Do you have any experience with these DX lenses I have mentioned, if so, any thoughts would be welcome.?

I’ve just checked camerapricebuster. The 2 lens kit offers better value. Then add the 28mm. Although I must confess to not knowing anything else about them. Or your preferred shooting style and subject matter.

I've recently picked up a Z5 to learn the Z system before going in full tilt and i really like it. Coming from the D750 i was concerned the quality might not be there but it certainly is. Only negative i've found against the D750 so far is the high iso is noisier and wouldn't really use above 6400. One thing that really appealed was silent mode as i do a lot of quiet events, however the banding problem is horrible and makes it unusable in the mode in some situations. Is it consistently bad across all Z models or do the high end bodies deal with it better somehow ? It's a weird heavy crop here just to remove event branding taken at f5 / 70mm / 1/160. Any advice on how to minimize it greatly appreciated. My next body will probably be the Z6ii / z6iii so be perfect if they were better in this area

Fully expect the Z6iii with its partial stacked sensor to be much better. Fast readout really helps here. Obviously the Z8 or Z9 with their fully stacked sensor will offer the best performance.
Is the Z5 too loud to use the mechanical shutter ?

Thanks - i'd love to compare the two. In the same room at the edges the shutter is fine (so much better than the exploding D750 shutter slap) sitting close though it's still audible to the person speaking which i'd rather avoid.

2 issues, don't use electronic shutter and drop shutter speed to around 1/50th, I cover corporate events and never felt the need to use ES and had zero complaints.

I have or had all 3 lenses on the z50. I’ve just sold tge z50 with 16-50 (to fund another camera) The kit lenses are excellent. I would go with the 2 kit lenses and add the 28 later (28 is a FF lens?).

Certainly the 16-50 is an excellent lens if you see past the apertures and the “collapsibility “ of it. I’m afraid I can’t comment on the 50-250. That 12-28 is a cracker though.

Thanks - I'll try it at a lower speed, people don't tend to make a fuss but i'd rather shoot silently in some situations if possible. The standard shutter is incredibly quiet compared to the D750. Such a great concept that's sadly flawed.

Can’t see the flaw myself. If you mean banding with silent shutter. It’s fixed by using a camera with a stacked sensor.

Great to see the northern lights in the lakes
I managed to see them in May, but only locally and nowhere particularly photogenic. Seemed rude not to head further afield for darker skies and have another go when the opportunity presented itself :D

To those with the Z6iii - or possibly older models with newer firmware - is it possible to change the colour of the inactive focus point boxes yet?

I don't mean change the colour when focus is achieved and the box illuminates, I mean the standard, not focused red. Being colourblind I found the Z focus points are basically invisible to me given how fine they are vs the chunky boxes of the D cameras, which I can see.

Thanks folks for the replies, it's appreciated. I will order the double kit lens option and possibly add the 28mm in time.

The Viltrox 75mm f2.0 AF Z lens (FF) arrived two days ago. I havent had a chance to really test it but the flower shot tests I did seemed to be pretty reasonable. Possibly not quite as sharp as my Z series Nikkors but probably similar to the older 85mm f1.4 which was no slouch.

It fits really well and the size on the Zf is really good as it is not a huge beast.

We were in a camper van at campsite at bempton cliffs and totally missed them as we were unaware it was happening. Perfect place and weather yet slept right through it all :headbang:

Oh no :(

It won't be any consolation but been there, done that and got the t-shirt too unfortunately

Just picked up a refurbished 20mm F/1.8 S from Nikon UK's website.
Anyone buy a refurb from Nikon UK? What condition can I expect it?
I wished I had have had it for the aurora a few nights ago, as I had to use my 35mm F/1.8 and it wasn't wide enough.
From my Nikon sources the lens will be indistinguishable from a new lens. It may come in a brown or white box rather than the standard Nikon yellow and black one.

Just getting around to looking at some of my holiday photos in Cornwall...Only four weeks ago but seems like a lifetime!!

@Peter123 @Stephen L @trevorbray I forgot to mention last week. Following your comments and advise I bought the ZFC twin lens kit last Thursday along with the ZFC Grip from Neewer which Stephen also recommended for me.

For our recent trip to Cornwall (photos above) I had two rucksacks 40l volume in total taking all my lenses with me and I ended using just two of the lenses. We go away again in November for my birthday to Devon/Dorset border and it will be nice just to take the ZFC kit , along with the 12-28mm lens I already had.

Sorry for the blurry photo with phone.

Hope some body can help. I want to buy a spare battery for the ZFC mentioned above and the Nikon store seem to offer the best price with delivery. Has anybody bought from the store and if so how long are the deliveries roughly taken?

About a week if it's in stock.

Glad you’re happy with it. I took both the Zf and Zfc to Arran last week. Hardly used the Zf. And most of the time the Zfc had the 16-50 mounted. Due to a recurrence of my shoulder problems I see this trend continuing.
